In the story of Sayyidina Musa (as) and Sayyidina Khidr (as), the second test that Sayyidina Musa faces is the slaying of the child by Sayyidina Khidr. The child represents the childish Nafs and ego that must be slain and overcome in order to achieve what Allah (azza wa jal) wants for the soul. Without removing this obstacle, nothing will be attained of stations.
